Gaming Purchases - Juni 2020
Juni 2nd:
Visited my mom again today. She had another good day and we walked a full lap around the entire hospital, great weather yesterday too, and on the way home I visited GameStop again.
The Wii U console and all games were pre-owned/used (unless otherwise specified), and the collectibles were all new.
DS:
WinX Club Rockstars
Wii:
Kororinpa
Monster High Ghoul Spirit
Wii U hardware:
a black Wii U Elite 32GB console (with tablet controller, Wii sensor bar, power cable, HDMI cable, charger cable for the tablet, charging bay for the tablet, a regular stand for the tablet and two small clip-on vertical stands for the console)
PlayStation 3:
Call of Duty Black Ops II (disc only)
Crysis 2 (disc only)
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate (disc only)
Saints Row IV (made sure to pick up the correct game this time!)
PlayStation 4:
RIGS Mechanized Combat League (new)
Xbox 360:
Colin McRae DiRT (disc only)
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 (disc only)
Skyrim (disc only)
Race Driver GRID (disc only)
Rise of the Tomb Raider (disc only)
WarTech Senko no Ronde (this was the PAL version, I originally got the NTSC version back in the day and it's nice to finally have the proper PAL release as well)
Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z Special Edition (sadly missing the Special Edition comic book, but the soundtrack CD was included)
Collectibles/Other:
a StarLink Pilot Pack - Razor Lemay
two more Crash Bandicoot keyring figure blindbags (containing Aku Aku and yet another Crash)
and two more Lara Croft Temple of Osiris Totaku figures
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juni 11th:
Went ahead and ordered some games, mainly for my recently purchased Wii U since I didn't have anything to play on it other than regular Wii games.
I placed orders from two separate places a few of days ago (Juni 8th) and the first package arrived today. The games that arrived today were all new and sealed copies.
PlayStation 3:
Ultimate Action Triple Pack (Just Cause 2, Sleeping Dogs and the Tomb Raider 2013 Reboot)
Wii U:
Art Academy Atellier
Call of Duty Black Ops II
Legend of Kay Anniversary
LEGO Batman 3 Beyond Gotham
LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juni 12th:
Second order of games arrived today. All of these were used copies.
UPDATE: Two of the four games didn't work! Zelda Wind Waker HD was damaged on the data side of the disc so it didn't work at all, the Wii U didn't even recognize it as a Wii U game, and ZombiU was the american release, which doesn't work on my european Wii U system. It should've been labelled as an import but they hadn't noticed and sold it as a regular game by mistake.
LEGO Batman 2 and Super Mario 3D World both worked, but there was extensive water damage to the Super Mario 3D World cover so the paper was all gross and nasty, and the LEGO Batman 2 disc has some rather worrying looking scratches on it.
The scratches on LEGO Batman 2 were on the outer part of the disc and the game starts up without any issues. Hopefully they're shallow enough that it will remain fully playable without any noticeable issues, but until I've played through the entire game 100%, I can't say for certain.
I contacted the store about this and because these were all Wii U games, they didn't have any more copies to replace them with.
I am to return the two games that didn't work and then I would get a 10% discount on the order for the remaining two games as "goodwill", as they phrased it in their reply.
Wii U:
LEGO Batman 2 DC Super Heroes (some scratches on the disc, only playing through it and 100%-ing the game will tell if it will have problems later on or not)
Super Mario 3D World (game was fine but the cover had severe water damage and looked gross, grimy and nasty as a result)
The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker HD (didn't work at all, there was damage on the data side of the disc and the Wii U didn't even recognize the disc)
ZombiU (american release, unplayable on my european Wii U)

Gaming Purchases - May 2020
May 31st:
Today was Mothers Day in Sweden and I went to visit my mom who's been in the hospital recovering from surgery for pancreatic cancer for about a month.
We were allowed to see each other outside only due to the corona virus. She's well enough now that she could walk outside with a stroller holding her drip thing, and today the weather was very warm and sunny so it worked well.
On the way home I took a little detour to the only GameStop store still open in Sweden (they're open until 18th July), and I found some stuff!
All games were second-hand/pre-owned/used. Other stuff was new.
DS:
Elements of Destruction
MechAssault Phantom War
MTV FanAttack (already got a copy of this recently, but it was the cheapest DS game they had so I picked it up for the case)
Wii:
Baroque
PlayStation Portable:
Beaterator
Championship Manager
Football Manager Handheld 2010
Gunpey
NBA Live 07
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08
PlayStation 3:
Atelier Rorona Plus The Alhcemist of Arland
Cabela's Dangerous Adventures
Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 3
Saints Row The Third (I already have this, when I meant to pick up Saints Row IV, I accidentally picked up the wrong damn game! D'oh!)
PlayStation Vita:
Aegis of Earth Protonovus Assault
FIFA 13
FIFA 14
Xbox 360:
Need for Speed ProStreet (Classics)
Collectibles/Other:
three Crash Bandicoot keyring figure blindbags (two were Crash, the other was Coco)
two Coco Bandicoot Totaku figures
a Lara Croft Temple of Osiris Totaku figure
two more packs of PlayStation themed decals (same type as I purchased recently)

Ordered some USB AC adapters to use with my PlayStation Classic, surf tablet, mobile phone etc..
USB Chargers:
a couple of 5V 1A USB AC-adapters
a 5V 2.4A USB AC-adapter with two USB slots
Other:
a couple of 10-pack of 3,5mm headphone jack diamond dust protectors, varied colors
UPDATE 13th September:
welp, the 2-pack of 5V 1A USB adapters got lost in the mail, so everybody loses, they don't get paid and I don't get what I ordered since instead of sending another pair they just removed it from my order, their incompetence is nothing short of staggering and I am definitely not a satisfied customer, I didn't want my money back, money in a bank account can't fucking charge my fucking devices now can it? unbelievable
UPDATE 19th September:
the missing package with the two 5V 1A USB AC-adapters arrived today after all, back from the land of the lost!
I honestly don't know if they sent another pair without telling me or if it's the actual original missing package, but whatever, as long as I'm not being charged for them I guess it's okay.
I don't have much use for them now though as I already bought another one with dual USB slots from GameStop in the time it took for these to finally show up, seeing as they were officially permanently lost according to and confirmed by the senders, the bank and the postal office!!

Now Playing - Februari 2019
Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes (PlayStation 3)
Started a new game, it's a good game even if it's a bit small. The problems are frustrating at times but the fun you can have make up for them enough.
played some demos that were already on the PS3 Slim I bought, the two I tried out were Eufloria and Urban Trial Freestyle, both were good
Killzone HD (PlayStation 3)
Started a new game. Still my favorite in the series, though Mercenary on Vita is really fantastic too and I will play that again soon as well.
Shadow Fall on PS4 is another great one but I don't have a PS4 to play it on right now.
Killzone 2 (PlayStation 3)
trying it out, it's a LOT glitchier than I remember, but the extreme amount of invisible walls all over the place keeping you from exploring even a tiny amount are just as plentiful and claustrophobic as I remember, also I had forgotten you could carry less weapons than in the original Killzone, you can hold literally just one single weapon of choice, beise that you have a permagun with infinite ammo and grenades, if you want ANY other weapon than the one you already picked up you're gonna have to swap that one for the new one no matter how much you don't wanna drag that infinite pea shooting pistol around, no exceptions, ever, it sucks! This was a very big drop down from the quality of the original game on PS2, the only real upgrades are minor visual things like the polygonal detail, some special effects like bump maps and lens flares etc., higher screen resolution, bigger color depth and better framerates, but textures are actually much lower res than were in the original on PS2, so it's not all better (it fucking should be!).
Also the ability to play as different characters by choice (after they were unlocked) is gone as well, this really sucks as I loved being able to replay levels as the different characters to see what different paths they took and what they got to do when I was doing my thing elsewhere last time.
EyeCreate (PlayStation 3)
recorded some silly things
Sly Cooper Thieves in Time (PlayStation 3)
started a new game
Superstars Racing V8 (PlayStation 3)
SuperCar Challenge (PlayStation 3)
BAJA Edge of Control (PlayStation 3)
Columns (Master System)
Columns (Game Gear)
Columns (Mega Drive)
Total Carnage (Midway Arcade Origins, PlayStation 3)
played through it, got bad ending, not a great game to be honest, unbalanced and focused far too much to steal your money by artificially making it frustrating and unfairly hard, doesn't flow well at all, extremely repetitive, stiff and slow controls, it has some good visuals but that's about it
Loaded (PlayStation)
Tomb Raider Legend (Tomb Raider Trilogy, PlayStation 3)
Finally got to playing this and so far it's not very good, some visual problems with the new lighting and shadows engine are very apparent and don't look good at all and there have been some odd control glitches where stuff happens without me pressing anything, grandes have been tossed and weapon changes have happened mid combat when all I was doing was moving in a single direction and shooting with default guns normally, no other buttons being pressed, very annoying. It also seems to have missed some of the treasures I know for a fact I picked up, I had to replay Lara's Mansion 5 times already to pick up the same damn treasure it kept ignoring when I picked it up.
I'll see it through to the end though as I know this game very well having played through most versions of it over the years. Not a good start though, not good at all, so far it's the worst port of this version of the game I've played, not counting the GBA or DS versions as they are not ports of this version but entirely different games made from the ground up for both those systems respectively.

Now Playing - Januari 2019
CastleVania Symphony of the Night (PlayStation, played on PlayStation Portable)
created a new game file for my annual playthrough of 2019, calling it "MM X IX"
Shinobi (3DS)
playing around a bit in the free play mode with some of the unlockable cheats, it's definitely better but you're still limited to what you've unlocked in the normal mode, so it's not a lot to have fun with until you've suffered through til the end of the main mode and at least unlocked all the levels to free play in
Rouge The Bat in Sonic The Hedgehog (Mega Drive)
A homebrew hack/mod of Sonic The Hedgehog that replaces Sonic with Rouge, fully custom adapted with her own graphics, new unique moves and abilities.
New favorite game of all time? Nah, it'd need an official version and physical release and preferably a new game to go with the new stuff this one has in it, but for what it is, a hack of the original Sonic game, it's exceptionally well made and I love it. As a Rouge fan this is one of the best games I've ever played for sure.
Wacky Races (Mega Drive, emulated prototype ROM)
Easily the best kart racer of the 16-bit generation in the things it gets right, with just a little bit more tweaking and some other minor things it would've been perfect, sadly it was never finished and remains only available as an unreleased prototype ROM, but wow what a prototype, it has FMV, polygonal graphics, excellent sprite quality, lots of high quality animation and tons of high quality sample based audio and on top of it all it plays with a good framerate and high speed, the controls are a bit of a mixed bag but they are functional and better than some games that did get released, so there was great potential in close reach.
It's easily one of the most technically impressive games of the 16-bit generation, and that says a thing or two when you look at some of the best competition for technical achievements that generation had.
Beam Rider (Intellivision)
A very good space shooter with a 3D viewpoint.
The Last of Us (PlayStation 3)
Trying it out on my newly purchased PS3 Slim while also testing the controllers I got for it, all works well, had to safe mode reset it to work though as it was set up for HDMI display so I got no image or sound on my old SDTV at first, thankfully it's easy to do, just hold the power button down until you hear a second beep and it's pretty much done and you can play as normal.
Had to start a new game of course, but I haven't played the game in so long that I was planning on starting over anyway as my old save file from 2015 on my Super Slim is so old now that I don't even remember where I was, I think Fall, but more than that I dunno, I just know I hadn't gotten to Winter yet, at least.
Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction (PlayStation 3)
Finally getting into this game, it's pretty good so far, it looks good, plays smoothly, worst thing has been that a lot of side paths and stuff to pick up is missable so extremely easily, so now already I have to go back and redo stuff from all the way back from the beginning of the game as you're not allowed to backtrack in the levels at all, they're linear and almost every step forward blocks your ability to go back even a single room or area, very annoying when you know there was more stuff back there if only you could open that door again that was open without any issues just a second ago or jump back on the platform just over there where you should easily be able to reach, but no, they're permanently blocked off unless you restart the whole level from the start, I really hate that, it makes the levels feel far less impressive and open, they look big and open ended but it's literally just a pretty corridor.
Space Debris (PlayStation)
Cool Boarders (PlayStation)
It's been a long time since I played this one, it's still one of the best snowboarding games ever, easy to get into, fun to play.
Super Sprint (as part of Midway Arcade Origins, played on PlayStation 3)
Spent a few hours getting over 257000 points, it gets repetitive after a while and the emulation is not perfect, but it's enjoyable enough for a gameplay session from time to time.

Was out shopping a little today and picked up some stuff.
PC hardware:
Trust GXT 155 Gaming Mouse
Trust regular mouse without "cool" name with numbers and stuff
Other:
a pack of various electrical parts
What really made today special was the fact that I got stopped and asked to show my bag before I was allowed to leave the store in two different stores, it's never happened before ever and now twice in one day, I dunno maybe I looked unusually criminal today? I don'ät know, all I know is I won't be going to Jula och Net on Net anymore, they think so lowly of me that they treat me like a common criminal then they have lost me as a customer, I've been going to both those places since the 90s and this has never happened before, they know me, I've never shoplifted or stole anything in my life, I was honestly shocked and offended and even more so that it happened twice like this, I'm still in shock over it.
If this is how they choose to treat their longtime customers then fuck em, I'm out, no more, I will take my business elsewhere, I won't force them to take my money ever again!

Gaming Purchases - May 2017
May 4th:
Picked up the games I ordered online last week as they arrived today.
All games are used copies, complete with box and manual, unless otherwise stated.
V-Rally and Eagle One Harrier Attack are in a double pack with both games in one box.
Mega Drive:
Summer Challenge
Zero Tolerance
PlayStation:
Blast Radius (no manual)
Eagle One Harrier Attack
MTV Sports: Pure Ride
Star Trek Invasion
Street Racer
Truck Racing
V-Rally
Vagrant Story (promo disc, no manual)
PlayStation 2:
Hot Wheels World Race
Carmen Sandiego: The Secret of the Stolen Drums
Crashed
Crazy Frog Racer 2
Crazy Taxi
Motorsiege: Warriors of Primetime
Speed Kings
In the Crazy Taxi box there is a folder tucked in with the manual advertising other games from Acclaim (as they were the ones that ported Crazy Taxi to PS2), and among the games listed is Zombie Revenge for PS2 which sadly got cancelled worldwide before release. I sure would've loved a PS2 port now that I can't play it on Dreamcast anymore. I miss Zombie Revenge.
Teh update of an sadness:
The V-Rally disc is damaged on the data side of the disc and doesn't play. The other games all work fine, but damn, I really wanted to play V-Rally, I even warmed up for it by playing Sega Rally Championship on PC and Colin McRae Rally on PlayStation yesterday, getting myself into the proper mid-to-late 90s rally mood. Bummer. :c
Another update, semi-sad, semi-odd:
Seems MTV Sports Pure Ride also doesn't work.. on PS2. It works just fine on PS3 though. I've had the opposite happen many times as PS3 has really bad PSX emulation but for once it did it better than PS2 which has partial original PSX hardware in it, so how it's less compatible than a PS3 I dunno, it makes no sense.
Another update, really weird now:
V-Rally, with the literally see-through scratches on the disc, works on PS3 now... I'm literally playing V-Rally right now even though the disc is damaged beyond repair and shouldn't work at all. Am I in the Twilight Zone?
May 24th:
Picked up the games I ordered online last week as they arrived today.
All games are used copies, complete with box and manual, unless otherwise stated.
Because of how the copy of V-Rally I got earlier this month didn't work properly on my PS2, I ordered a separate copy now that I've tested out, and it works, so that's good at least.
I also ordered a separate copy of Eagle One Harrier Attack because I felt like it.
PlayStation:
Eagle One Harrier Attack
Formula One Arcade
Time Crisis Project Titan (promo disc, no manual)
V-Rally (Platinum)
V-Rally 2
WRC Arcade
PlayStation 2:
Kill.Switch (promo disc, no manual)

Now Playing - April 2017
Continuing with Sly Cooper Thieves in Time on Vita and PS3 while also testing some other new games.
Sly Cooper Thieves in Time (PlayStation Vita)
Nearing the end now, on the final episode.
UPDATE: 10th April around 23:00 I completed the Vita version.
Sly Cooper Thieves in Time (PlayStation 3)
Catching up, only slightly behind where I am on Vita.
UPDATE: 12 April I completed the PS3 version.
NeverDead (Xbox 360)
I've heard bad things about this game but I'm having fun with it so far. It can get a bit choppy when there are lots of enemies spawning and a lot of environmental destruction is going on and the physics and controls with the main character's body dismemberment can be a bit unresponsive and bouncy, but the action is great. The rest is good too, I don't have any big complains yet. At least as far as the beginning of the game goes it seems to be a bit of an underrated hidden gem.
Earth Defense Forces 2 Portable (PlayStation Portable)
Smart As... (PlayStation Vita)
Been playing this on a daily basis doing the daily challenge and some additional free play of the minigames. It's a mixed bag in just about every way. Some minigames are challenging, others are not, some are forgiving, others are not, some control as they should, others do not, some are well designed, others aren't, some of the rules are fair and make sense, others don't, some use the Vita's different features well, others don't, some are unplayable augmented reality games because they require AR cards that don't come with the game, other AG games work fine without them, and so on.. I enjoy it for the good parts but the bad parts constantly make it a lesser experience than it should be.
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64)
Just reminding myself of all the reason why this game sucks.

Gaming Purchases - September 2016
September 6th:
A trip to the local GameStop the day after my birthday resulted in some nice finds.
Xbox 360:
Fuse
I've had this on PS3 for ages but haven't even taken off the plastic wrapping of it's case yet. I'll probably end up playing this version first now as the PS3 game is tucked away somewhere in a box full of other PS3 games I got but never played as PS3 just isn't a very good console despite having all the potential in the world to outclass and outperform Xbox 360 in every conceivable way, if only Sony didn't work so hard to ruin it it could've been the only console you needed, instead they gave away the entire market to Microsoft and kept doing so until Microsoft screwed up so badly with their brand that PS4 was the only thing left to buy unless you want to go back a generation or two and pay for overpriced Nintendo garbage, and I think the sales for Wii and Wii U in later years have shown just how willing the market is to do just that.
Shadows of the Damned
I've been meaning to pick this up for a long time but it just never happened until now. Better late than never.
The Bureau XCOM Declassified
I'm not a fan of the XCOM series, I've played an older MS-DOS game in the series called UFO and it was alright if a bit boring and visually uninteresting and every newer game in the series I've tried has just been the same thing with better visuals and presentation, still too boring though. This seems to be a spinoff that set out to fix most if not all the issues I have with the series so if done right I may like it as I'm a fan of the setting in the games just not the execution.
Transformers Dark of the Moon
I recently got hold of the Wii version of this game, it didn't have robots, just vehicles, it was motion control only and the visuals were really weak, so this will probably be a lot better having robots, nice visuals and proper controls.
The Wii version came with a toy car though, this version does not, still I think this version has the Wii version beat in every other way and because I already have the Wii version and the toy car that came with it I really have nothing to complain about! Except of course how shitty these new Transformers movies are and how the series is dead to me because of them and all that, but hey, at least the games based on these new shitty movies are endlessly better than that Devastation garbage Platinum games regurgitated onto the market not long ago, fucking worthless PS2 budget bargain bin level crap.
PlayStation 3:
Binary Domain
I've played the demo on Xbox 360 and thought it was okay, I don't know how i'll be able to use the voice features in this game on a PS3 as I don't have a PS3 compatible headset with mic but I guess I can always buy the XBox 360 version to try that out some other day. For now the PS3 version was so much cheaper than the Xbox 360 version it even made up for all the shortcomings PS3 games have by default. Make no mistake though I'm buying this for Xbox 360 as soon as I find a cheap enough copy out there.
BioShock Infinite
I've heard a lot about this game so I was very reluctant at buying it, but because I got it for free this time I felt it was acceptable to at least give it a try. It froze after only a few minutes of gameplay and the overly convoluted story at the start of the game made it an extremely bad first impression, but I rebooted, installed an update for the game and replayed to the point I was and kept going, it hasn't frozen again yet and the story has become a bit more focused and less all over the place, it's still glitchy as fuck with enemies losing track of you when you're right infront of them and Elizabeth getting stuck because her AI is retarded and broken but at least it's playable and I like the variety of things you can do even if I would've strongly preferred being able to carry more than two weapons at a time. Seriously, this is a massively retarded limitation and needs to fucking stop being allowed to exist in videogames.
Brink Special Edition
I got this as cheap as is physically possible without getting it for free, so even if it sucks that's kind of okay. Actually I've looked it up and know it pretty much sucks as there aren't even female characters to play as in a game that prides itself on having customization options for the playable character.
[sarcasm]Yeah, really impressive having a whole one single character type to pick from, excuse me while I sit down as the sheer amount of options is making me lightheaded.[/sarcasm]
Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes
I've played this on Xbox 360 and though it was so so, only one small area but at least you get a lot to do in that small area so it's okay, I guess, for the right price. The PS3 version was the cheaper of the two, otherwise I would've gotten the Xbox 360 version where I have my save file, obviously. I'll pick up the Xbox 360 version as soon as I can get it as cheap as I got this one.
Midway Arcade Origins
I don't know much about this. It was cheap and contains a small collection of really old arcade games.
Not exactly making use of the Blu-ray format as I imagine the disc space used for these old games can't possibly even reach double digit megabytes let alone the double digit gigabytes the disc they're on has to offer.
Saint Seiya Soldiers' Soul
I was really looking forward to this game but turns out I can't play it unless I take my PS3 online and downgrade to a newer official firmware, I'd rather just take a screwdriver and force it straight through the console than do a thing like that as the last time I did I permanently lost PS2 emulation, my Linux installed OtherOS and all my respect and trust to Sony as a company.
SuperCar Challenge
This is the first game on PS3 that when I've tried to play custom music in it it actually allowed me to do so, making this the first game on PS3 that actually takes that fundamental step in the right direction of being almost as good as all Xbox 360 games are by default as even the very worst games on Xbox 360 still all allowed me to play custom music without any objections, unlike all PS3 games I've tried doing so with until this one broke that trend, now if only there was a way to make PS3 not limit all games to PAL50 on an SDTV and to allow me to install games to the harddrive, then I wouldn't even need an Xbox 360 except for all the awesome exclusives PS3 never got and all the countless multiplats that run like ass on PS3 but run silky smooth and with a lot better anti-aliasing on Xbox 360.

Xbox 360:
Now Playing - Augusti 2016
These are the games I've been playing this month.
Metroid II Return of Samus (Game Boy)
After I was disappointed by the turnout of the fanmade remake (turned out it was a full on reboot, not even close to remake, literally everything was changed and tons of stuff was added that was never in the original) I wanted to play the proper Metroid II instead, so I did.
It still sucks that Nintendo after less than 24 hours filed a DMCA report against the reboot and had it taken down as it wasn't a bad game, it was actually the second best 2D Metroid I've ever played after the brilliant original Metroid II. It fades in comparison to the original Metroid II, of course, and it doesn't hold a candle to Other M either, not even close, but it's still the third best Metroid game overall and second best 2D Metroid game in existence, so it still sucks Nintendo can't even let their own fans do what Nintendon't.
Top Gear Rally (Game Boy Advance)
F22 Interceptor (Mega Drive)
FlatOut 2 (PlayStation 2)
Raceway Drag & Stock Racing (PlayStation 2)
I've completed the drag races, they were easy, but the rest of the game is so hard I canät unlock any new stuff, so it's become a catch 22, I don't wanna keep playing unless there's new stuff to play with but I can't access the new stuff unless I play a lot and get much better at what little game is offering this early on. It's a low budget game but I feel I overpaid for what little I can get out of it without putting additional hard work into it, as if the hard work to get the money to buy the game wasn't enough, and what really sucks is that the stuff you have to unlock are fundamental features of the game like other game modes it brags about on the back of the box! That stuff needs to be instantly accessible or you're not allowed to use it as a selling point! Imagine if A Sonic game with Sonic on the front bragged about how this is the greatest Sonic game ever and you then have to play through it in hard mode with a generic military personnel guy character who is the only one unlocked to play as by default before you can even use Sonic!! FUCK THAT SHIT, MAN! THAT SHIT AIN'T RIGHT!
R:Racing (PlayStation 2)
Road Rage 3 (PlayStation 2)
Test Drive Unlimited 2 (Xbox 360)
Finally got hold of the sequel to Test Drive Unlimited, which instantly became one of my favorite games of the generation many years back when I got it as a birthday gift from my best friend. So far Test Drive Unlimited 2 has been okay, I like the upgraded and added stuff but I miss the things they've changed or removed.
It has a much more realistic physics engine making it a more simulation focused racing game than the first game, the visuals are upgraded as far as realistism goes and honestly look fantastic, but it all runs at a lower framerate in general and makes controlling your vehicle at high speeds much harder than it should be, they have cars that were missing in the first game like the Bugatti Veyron and they have proper offroad races now with Range Rovers and other offroad vehicles, but they've completely removed all motorcycles from the game, something I loved dearly in the first, if it wasn't for a free DLC pack containing a whopping three bikes there'd be literally none at all in this game, which is a shame, they've added licenses you need to pass in order to race and finally they've added a lot more cut scenes with characters interacting with lots of talking.
How all these things will affect the game for you depends on if you like them or not, personally I think some things like the visuals and driving physics being different are okay but I could've taken what the first game had only more fine tuned over changing them completely into this more realistic style, and the enforced licenses you need to pass, I don't remember there being any in the first game but they really slowed down this game for me, they could've been left out entirely, I also honestly don't care for the cutscenes much at all.
Beyond the island of Hawaii they've also added another island, Ibiza, to drive on this time, so there's more places to go overall than the first game had.
The rest of TDU2 is almost exactly the same as in TDU with similar races and other type of side missions, exploring and finding stuff and all that good stuff that made the first so much fun. Overall I'd say they complement each other well but I don't think the second game replaces the first as the only one to get, the first still has enough stuff that it stands strong alongside the sequel and I'd say get hold of either one of them to see if you like the overall formula first, then if you do, get the other one and enjoy what that one brings to the overall experience, they are both great games.
I do wish they would've only improved upon the first game rather than change and ruin some things while improving only some stuff though. What I mean is, I would've liked it a lot more if the sequel was more than just another great game. It should've been better than the first, not just equally good overall but for slightly different reasons.
The police work very different in this than it did in the first, I haven't had enough time to really look into it yet but they've added some unique modes this time around that have to do with the police, I haven't made up my mind about what I think about this yet though.
The system to earn money through jumps, powersliding and near misses I feel is okay but it should've been more forgiving with what counts as a collision as driving over tiny bushes or small rocks that you don't even notice and can barely make out on screen will mercilessly end your combos no matter what, I think it should've just been bigger things that can end it like hitting street lights, trees or other cars. I was trying to get the achievement for reaching the highest combo level 10 and it took over an hour to reach it once because literally the tiniest thing would end the combo, it became nothing but frustration and when I finally did it I got no satisfaction out of it at all, I only felt like I had wasted my time, time I could've spent having fun instead.
Nascar 08 (Xbox 360)
I've always wanted a game like Nascar but because the sport doesn't exist outside of USA it's only logical there haven't been that many game release here either, so I was happy when I now finally got hold of this game, and it was a modern one too so it should be extra good! Right? Eh, not really, it's not so much a Nascar game than it is a simulation of the sport, kind of like the Tour de France games aren't great bike racing games but very focused on the Tour de France sport specifically making them really boring to anyone who'd just love to race with bikes.
So yeah, this is not a game for racing fans but a game for Nascar enthusiasts specifically. It does offer some stuff for racing game fans as well but it's very clear where the focus is. The controls are the biggest problem as they are very lifelike for the sport and have done nothing to bridge the gap between how they work in real life and how you as the person playing gets up use them to play the game. It's literally unplayable with the normal settings and require you to manually make your own cars and stay away from the career modes and such to just be able to play the game at all.
I was able to get some enjoyment out of it but it really works against it if all you want is to drive around and have a good time.
I haven't played it a whole lot because of this so I can't say much more than that. It looks nice and has some really nice special effects like dynamic smoke and such, you can get some fun out of it, I just haven't had time to do so yet.
Metroid Prime (GameCube)
Trying to get through this garbage. Got the power bomb and running (read: slowly walking like a broken tank because the controls are ASS!!) around all over the fucking planet looking for stuff I can blow up to reveal new locations, oh what fun it is to run (again read as before) around aimlessly basically pixel hunting for hours until you randomly find the place the game wanted you to go. All this could've been avoided had it had the necessary linearity until the game was presented enough that free roaming would've been earned and welcome, too bad Nintendo (and to a lesser degree their lapdogs at Retro Studios) wouldn't know good game design even if they literally had it themselves just a decade or two prior to when this atrocity was released.
Tomb Raider (PlayStation)
Replaying again. In the Colosseum. It's amazing how much better this game holds up than most other early 3D games, equally sad is how awful the newer games with the Tomb Raider name in the title, as unfitting as it is considering there's nothing Tomb Raider about them, are in comparison to a game that is now 20 years old. Crystal Dynamics sure love to prove their endless incompetence. Not saying the new games with the unfitting Tomb Raider in their titles aren't okay games, some are even good in their own ways, but they're about as good Tomb Raiders as the Uncharted series and the Prince of Persia games a few years back. Giving monstrously different games a title with a legacy to live up to like the one Tomb Raider should never be done and I'm not afraid to call out the bullshit as it keeps coming. Thankfully they can never ruin the original games, they lack the time travel powers needed, and I for one am endlessly happy over this fact.
